5. _K_n_o_w_n__P_r_o_b_l_e_m_s
This chapter lists the known problems in release of the
ImageVision Tools.
5.1 _i_m_g_t_c_l__w_i_l_l__a_b_o_r_t__o_n__s_o_m_e__s_c_r_i_p_t__e_r_r_o_r_s
The error checking in imgtcl is incomplete. It is fairly
easy to construct a bogus script that will abort imgtcl. In
particular, be careful about referencing undefined
variables.
5.2 _i_m_g_v_i_e_w__c_a_n__f_a_i_l__w_i_t_h__B_a_d_A_l_l_o_c__o_n__R_E
On Onyx/RealityEngine systems running Irix 6.2 it is
possible for imgview to exit with a "BadAlloc" error from
the X server. This sometimes occurs when the ImageVision
Library attempts to allocate more pbuffers to accelerate
processing if all of the processing operations are enabled.
The workaround is to disable acceleration (from the 'Edit'
menu on the Processing panel) if this occurs.
5.3 _i_m_g_w_o_r_k_s__d_i_e_s__l_o_a_d_i_n_g__G_I_F__i_m_a_g_e
Attempts to load animated GIF images with imgworks can fail
with a SIGSYS. The work around is to use imgview which uses
the newer version of the GIF file reader.
5.4 _i_m_g_w_o_r_k_s__d_o_e_s__n_o_t__s_u_p_p_o_r_t__n_e_w_e_r__I_F_L__f_o_r_m_a_t_s
Since imgworks is based upon IL 2.5, it cannot take
advantage of the newer IFL file formats. An alternative is
to use imgview.
5.5 _i_m_g_v_i_e_w__X__e_r_r_o_r__w_h_e_n__l_o_w__o_n__c_o_l_o_r_m_a_p__e_n_t_r_i_e_s
When the server is short of colormap entries, the imgview
application could receive an X error.
5.6 _N_e_w__f_i_l_e__f_o_r_m_a_t_s__d_o__n_o_t__a_p_p_e_a_r__a_s__i_m_a_g_e_s__o_n__d_e_s_k_t_o_p
The desktop rules for images has not been updated to include
the latest image formats. These new images will not appear
correctly on the desktop.

5.7 _P_u_r_p_l_e__b_l_o_c_k_s__d_o_t__i_m_a_g_e__i_n__I_m_a_g_e_I_n_f_o
When rendering RGB images using color index mode, zooming
the image can cause dithering problems.
